Home > News > South Africa. 120 students on the outskirts of Johannesburg find the right motivation for a better future, thanks to the Harambee project.

With the last tranche sent (Euro 3,447.15) to the project: “Support to Protea Glen High Scool” of Soweto – South Africa, the activites have been completed. The action started in 2017 thanks to Harambee support.

The main challenge we faced during the year” – we are told by the Komati Foundation, the institution responsible for the initiative, “was to guarantee the attendance of the students on a regular basis; the problem is that the parents of the students often do not understand the importance of studying for their children“.

In order to overcome this obstacle the project staff tried to actively involve families, making them participate in the educational path of the youngsters.

120 students aged between 15 and 16 were accompanied in the study process and each one of them was taken care of personally. The comments of the guys are all very positive: “Now I am a better student and all thanks to the teachers who are loving, caring and very kind to us. I felt supported and encouraged for the whole period“says Thato.

I discovered my potential and this also improves my grades. I have a good feeling after every exam and in the past it was exactly the opposite“adds Junior.

I am grateful for having participated in the program because I am smart but lazy, not willing. The courses taught me to work hard and fight for what I believe in“, says Lethabo, who now knows how to strengthen his motivation.
