On March 27 2006 Maria Jose Soga, Harambee coordinator for Castilla y Leon, Spain, launched the initiatives planned for students in Spain this year.

The launch was held in Valladolid and the audience included 180 head-teachers and presidents of the parents' associations for parent-run schools. The projects aim to make Africa better known to younger people. They are:
- Art prize: "Communicating Africa" for pupils in the third cycle of elementary schooling and the first cycle of secondary schooling. Artwork should communicate Africa's potential and can use different media.
- Music prize: "Communicating Africa", for school and youth-group choirs. Songs should have an African rhythm, can be composed for the occasion, and can be sung either in Spanish or in an African language.

The deadline for entries was May 16.
