On the 12th of May 2008 Harambee presented, with the collaboration of Lottomatica, the first edition of “The Art of Solidarity”, an evening of Music and literature to support Africa held in Pallazzo Barberini.
The event was inaugurated with a concert by Juniorchestra from the National Academy of Santa Cecilia. In the course of the evening Lorenza Foschini - Journalist from RAI- interviewed some of those in charge and collaborators of the current project arranged by Harambee. John Kurya, a Kenyan engineer, sister Liliana Ugolini of the “cannossiane “order, who talked about the project for women in Sudan, Giovanni Mottini Doctor and “Witness” of the initiative in favour of the pediatric hospital of Monkole. In addition they talked about their experience some students who last summer participated in a summer camp in Kenya. Later, Liliana Wairimu and Teresa Pascarelli recited poems of Wole Soyinka and Euphrase Kezilahaba, two noted African writers. At the event Isabella Rauti, the wife of the mayor of Rome the Hon. Giovanni Alemanno also spoke, and she brought greetings from the first citizen of Rome. At the end of the evening, the public had the possiblilty to visit more thoroughly the “enchanting” Palazzo Barberini , after its restauration work.
