The Smile of Africa: a Homage to Ryszard Kapuscinski
Ismael Martinez,Harambee and the Schola foundation give a different perspective of Africa thanks to an exhibition which took place in Spain and will travel soon to Italy and to other countries; it is an homage to the Polish reporter.
It is sure, the smile has to be profoundly human.Because Africa is also a continent beyond dramatic stereotypes. That is why this travelling exhibition shows the vitality of Benin and Toga, two countries on the west coast of Africa.
Ismael Martinez(Jaen,1973), photo reporter for the University of Navarra, shows another image of Africa and gives a homage to the Polish reporter.Rene Maisner, photographer and gallery owner, daughter of Ryszard Kapuscinski remarked: "The photos reflect the movement and the emotion of the ordinary world. It is daily life from different angles and distances. At times only the faces, sometimes just silhouettes and activities. They are ordinary scenes expressed by a vital, exciting and poetic language. The day to day of any street in Africa. It is also the real Africa of smiles and hope. That is why Ismael Martinez's photos are human. And being human they show in some way my father's desire to let us discover humanity in the others and at the same time let us be more human. These images show a relationship of reciprocal understanding,of sympathy and they are able to discover the humanity soul in the daily life.
