Rome, February 2009- Pope Benedict xvi asked that we pray for the Church during the month of February.
Next month in March the Pope will visit Cameroon (Yaunde, from 17th to the 20th of March) and after Angola (Luanda from the 20th to the 23rd of March). The trip of the Pope will be an important step to prepare for the next synod of Bishops for Africa which will be celebrated in Rome from the 4th to the 25th of October 2009 on the theme: "The Church in Africa at the service of Reconciliation, Justice and Peace". It will be the first trip of the Pope to Africa and his eleventh International Apostolic trip outside of Italy.
Pope Benedict expressed last 8th of January, during his annual speech to the diplomatic corps accredited to the Holy See, his happiness about going to Africa "In a little while, he said, I will have the pleasure of knowing many brothers and sisters in the Faith that live in Africa". The Pope underlined as well his desire for peace and progress in the fight against poverty: I ask the Lord that the hearts of the Africans be available to receive the Gospel and to live coherently, the construction of Peace in the fight against moral and material poverty. The Pope expressed a particular worry for the children of Africa.
