Spain, Carena and Harambee Together for Africa.

The 43rd edition of the International Song Festival,organized by Carena Cultural Association of Barcelona has taken a look at Africa and this year the comittee organizer has decided to support the Harambee cooperation projects.
Last Sunday,the 1st of March, more than 500 participated at the event organized by Carena Cultural Assocaition from Barcelona.At 11.30 the festival began punctually in the auditorium where there were no seats left free.The smallest of Carena,inaugurated the event with a dance with backgroung music and a happy song which says "Carena you ,Carena me, Carena everybody!Singing very loudly "To Africa we are going to come"! After,the presenters informed that the festival was offered for Harambee and passed onto their different activities which took place over the next couple of hours. In total, more than 500 participants (11 acts) interpreted new songs especially composed for the event. Some of the cultural assocations and the participants came from different European countries such as France, Italy and Switzerland.
After a video was projected telling the vision, means and actions of Harambee in the World. The voices of two children from Carena was used as speaker.The images were taken by a collaborator of Harambee,Ismael Martinez who took advantage of the trip that he made to different African countries to capture, with his camera many moments of the daily life of people.
During the half an hour in which the jury deliberated, many people visited the Harambee stand which was situated in the hall of the Hotel.There, some collaborators of Harambee gave the information packs and answered their questions.They also opened a collection for donations. Also the sponsors of the event besides parents and people involved gave important donations.
Marta Gamiz,director of the festival, expressed her satisfaction:"This year we have given a wider dimension to the festival.Through our music, we have given a concrete support to Harambee projects in Kenya, Congo, Mozamique, Sudan and Cameroon."
The first prizes in the children category and youth category went to the Youth Education Centre of Rocabruna,Girona(Spain),and the Tandem Youth Educational Centre of Milan (Italy).
