Rome 27/01/2009-The recent sad news from Lampedusa teaches us that the only way ahead is the renewal of our commitment in favor of Africa. We were reminded of this by Jean Leonard Touadi, member of the European Union commission for the House of Deputies, in the course of a convention:
"The Humanitarian Emergency in Congo" organized by Harambee-Africa International."Immigration is a serious problem above all for Africa which is deprived of its most enterprising forces. For this reason we have to create the conditions so that the Africans can return to their countries and work for the growth of their own countries.Behind every immigrant, Touadi said, there is a tragic story made of war and misery."Europe must break the silence of the International Community and propose its own project for a solution to the conflicts underway".Speaking of the conflict in Congo, now in its fifteenth year, the deputy underlined the simplistic interpretation of the wars as the fruit of ethnic causes."Congo is paying a great price for being a region of great natural riches, there are no resources or minerals that you cannot find in the Congolese soil".Again, Touadi spoke of the neccessity of an integration of African regions as a premise for national integration. "A confederation of states is the only way to peace. Rwanda,Uganda,Burundi must be involved so that the peace process can last-Touadi explained- that without the support of the Internation Community whatever attempt at peace is doomed to failure".
