Harambee - All together for Africa
Harambee Association’s goal is to promote initiatives in education and development in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Kenya. Harambee supports teacher enhancement.

In Kenya 6 million children attend primary schools while only 700,000 students attend Secondary schools. The number of those who leave school early is very high as they very often have to work and their families cannot afford the cost of the studies. Moreover, the lack of infrastructure, the terrible hygenic situation and the consequent spread of sickness, together with the low salaries of the teachers, risk to compromise the training of the new generation and therefore the growth of the Country.
Education is in fact the way to development.
For this reason, Strathmore University, among the most prestigious universities in the Country, has been carrying out programmes for the teacher enhancement
for several years. It has been working in collaboration with the Kenya Education Staff Institute, the Agency of the Minsitry of Education. Thanks to its work,
hundreds of teachers and school directors are given back their sense of identity as a contributor to the moral fibre of the nation.
In 2009,450 teachers attended at the courses and the objective is to gather 6,000 people, from 42 different ethnic groups of the different parts of the
Country.
