Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas. Best wishes from Giovanni Mottini, the President of Harambee Africa International.
"7 years have already passed since Harambee took up the path of committed solidarity in favour of the African people,
men, women and children. Faithfull to the conviction that the future of the African continent will be sown like a precious and fruitful seed in the hearts and minds of the African children, we have decided to concentrate our efforts and our energies exactly there, where the hearts beat and the minds know how to dream, preparing the ground so that it can germinate as soon as possible and in all of its vigour.
Josemaria Escrivà said with that experience of humanity that the Saints know how to posses more than anybody else that there are two aspects of human society in which the future of people is played: family and education. And where do family and education converge naturally to build the bases of the future,if not
in the school?
For this reason the school which is the real crossroad of human development seems to us the best place to “cultivate” the fertile and receptive ground of the
hearts and the minds of African youth. There in this context meet the three principal protagonist which interact, the professors with their professionalism
and dedication, the family, foundation of the society and the children, with their talent ,their thirst to know and respond before the new.
But it has to be said that the school is not enough. For these reason we have embraced the slogan “don’t build schools, but do school”. That is to say we are
not interested in building buildings but in transmitting knowledge so that the Africans the African teachers improve in there educative task.
These professional improvements will make the task more educatively authentic. To educate is to e ducere , it means to take out and apply all of the
potential of the intelligence and invention so that each child is able to develop.
For this reason the logic which in 2009, we supported projects which deal more directly with the improvements on the efficiency in the educative and social
missions of the schools in Africa. In 2010 we will confront new challenges: forming professors and giving pedagogic material, in concrete to promote
education in the rural schools of the inland of the Cameroon, transmit techniques of cultivation to Angola’s youth, to promote the social and cultural growth
of the girls in the 13 rural school of Nigeria, update professionally the teachers of the refugee camps in the Sudan We know that the most difficult
enterprise of Harambee is done in Africa but here in the western World. We need you who have come to know us and a lot o f other “accomplices“ who like us feel involved in the investments of the intangible and valuable assets of Africa: their minds. We concern ourselves in the things which you don’t see
but which are the true key to change: a people and a continent.
For these reasons, thanks to the committees of Italy, France, Spain,Portugal, Holland, Ireland and the United States, Harambee will continue participating
with conferences, exhibitions and events to spread a more profound and authentic information about Africa we have to go beyond the stereotypes of the
collective imaginations and with the means of communication teach people to look at the african people again, one by one, with new eyes."
