IV HARAMBEE INTERNATIONAL AWARD “CONVEYING AFRICA”

E-mail
The deadline for submissions has been moved to October 8th, 2010 (5 p.m). The Competition, sponsored by the Municipality of Rome and Lottomatica Spa, seeks to promote an image of the African continent that overcomes and combats common stereotypes by awarding TV documentaries (5,000 euros in prizes) and video clips by students (5,000 euros in prizes) from all over the world that promote a positive image of Africa.
The deadline for submissions, originally scheduled for September 15th, 2010, has been postponed to allow schools to participate in the competition.
“When speaking about Africa”, states Giovanni Mottini, president of Harambee, “one must fill a void of communication and knowledge by telling stories about daily life or extraordinary heroism. Understanding the everyday routine of African men, women and children allows us to learn and better comprehend what we have in common. This “ordinary” knowledge provides the necessary foundation on which to promote genuine cooperation for development. Cooperation not intended as only offering help, but rather helping others to help one another”.
Award ceremony will be held on November 12th, 2010 in the Hall of Protomoteca at the Campidoglio in Rome.
