52 students, making up one elementary class and three secondary school classes, frequently attend lessons and next year there will be 100. This is the first and most important goal reached thanks to the funds raised by Harambee since the beginning of the initiative this year.
Training has begun (including hygiene standards and first aid training) for teachers both in the school and in the neighborhood. The courses were held by faculty members of the Education Department of the University of Kinshasa and by a professor of the National University of Education.
Restoration work will begin soon on three buildings in order to carry out school activities and the following materials have been ordered:
-120 desk chairs
-120 desks
-12 lockers
-24 blackboards
-100 boxes of chalk, 220 blackboard erasers, 20 laser cartridges
-20 garbage bins, 20 tables and 40 chairs
The goal of the project is to offer a great number of children the possibility to attend school and create on-going scholastic activities through the renovation of two schools, the Liziba High School and the Bozindo school, which both currently operate in precarious building structures.
