Rome, 15 September 2015. The jury for the VI Edition of the Harambee International Prize for documentaries on Africa has been announced. The award ceremony will take place in Rome this coming 6 November 2015.
Harambee Africa International has appointed a commission to examine the documentaries submitted to the competition by qualified professionals in the field of communication.
This year’s jury features Diego Contreras, Vice President of Communications at the Pontifical University of Santa Croce; Assina Kahamba, University of Lubumbashi; Fabrizio Colombo, director of SIGNIS Service Rome; Stephen Ogongo, journalist and lecturer at the Gregorian University; and Gianni Di Giovanni, chief managing director of AGI.
There are two award categories: the first is for documentaries and/or video reportage broadcast on television or web-based portals, while the second is for video-clips produced by students 25-years old or younger.
The winners will be recognized at the event on November 6th, which will take place at 5 pm at the Palace of the Exhibitions of Rome and which will also be the occasion for meeting with media professionals.
The Harambee “Communicating Africa” prize aims to contribute a more realistic image of the continent, which reflects the conflicts but also the hopes, richness and diversity of its peoples and their cultures. It is a Prize for those who know how to show the greatness of small daily stories, including stories of integration, peaceful coexistence, and dialogue, without giving a naive or simplistic view of Africa, and demonstrating that amidst wars and famines, there is serious work being done and hope for many people and institutions.
