The Global Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), to be achieved by 2030, were approved in New York on 25 September 2015. On that date, the 193 member countries of the United Nations unanimously adopted Resolution 70/1 “Transforming our world: Agenda 2030 for sustainable development”.

The Agenda came into force on 1 January 2016 and replaced the previous Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) that had guided international development support action in the period 2000-2015 (here is the link to the final report).

The Global Agenda comprises 17 Objectives divided into 169 ‘targets’ or targets. The interconnected and indivisible objectives balance the three dimensions of sustainable development: economic growth, social inclusion and environmental protection.
