Description
The project aims at supporting displaced young people because of the recent conflict who live in extreme poverty and have scarce chance to find a job for lack of training. The project activities will provide: training courses for 300 young people, the promotion of education amongst young girls and a concrete support to 50 families. The action will take place at Abidjan and Yamoussoukro thanks to Yarani professional school and Okassu centre for woman human development.
The project will be run in the framework of the wider National Program for Reconciliation promoted by the government after the end of the conflict.
Marie-Jeanne, agronomist. With your help she can become an agricultural entrepreneur and an example for the entire community.
Marie-Jeanne attended the Company Management course at the Yarani Professional Training School in the Ivory Coast. At the end of the course, she received financial support to launch her business. Marie-Jeanne studied agronomics, but was then unable to find work. That’s when she decided to attend a 9-month course at Yarani and present a project on the cultivation of corn in her village, near the city capital of Abidjan. She saved up a little money and was eventually able to provide the guarantees necessary to get a revolving fund loan with which she bought seeds and then got down to work with the help of some day laborers. Due to the war, unfortunately her land was abandoned and the crops were lost.
Marie-Jeanne, however, did not lose hope. As soon as conflict was brought to an end, she went back to the field to personally inspect them. She made new investments with the help of some relatives and bought new seeds. Thanks to her perseverance, she gained back all that was lost. Even better, she decided to diversify the farm land and bought different seeds in order to fully take advantage of the fertile land to grow vegetables, which are on high demand at the market in Abijdan.
She now continues to receive technical assistance from professors at the Yarani school, who frequently visit her fields as part of the monitoring program developed specifically for young entrepreneurs.
Marie-Jeanne is very grateful for the training and assistance she will receive. Most of all, for her family and school companions, she represents an excellent example of someone with a dynamic and entrepreneurial spirit.
