Home > News > Sierra Leone: 6,000 euros sent to help Makeni school children.

Thanks to contributions collected, the Marcello Semeraro Nursery School in Makeni is now able to accommodate and sustain 75 children, ages 3 through 6 years old.Initially the school was home to 35 children; now we can take up to 75”, says the head of Bridge of Humanity, the NGO linked to the Diocese of Albano Laziale, promoter of the project Harambee is supporting in 2016. “With thr contributions from Harambee, we are able to provide one meal a day and, where necessary, the appropriate health care.”
The nursery is located in a marginal area of the city of Makeni and it is the only center for inclusion and integration for preschoolers. “Children are affectionately accompanied by the sisters who teach them. They learn to relate with others, to play, to be independent; it is a joy to see them neat and clean, sitting in their seats, singing together in English.”
Young students also receive support to access the educational content of the following level. “Parents asked us repeatedly that their children be able to attend school in the months of July and August, during which we are normally closed, so that they could live in a healthy context and not have to be in the dusty streets of Makeni.”
