More than 20 years have passed since the genocide in Rwanda and the country has taken enormous steps to overcome psychological and physical violence. The peace and political stability achieved since 1995 has facilitated high economic growth. Much progress has also been made in terms of equal opportunities between men and women: the Parliament has the highest percentage of women (64%) and the government’s reform programme places great emphasis on equal access to education and employment. Unfortunately, however, the legacy of the recent past still weighs heavily, especially for women and in rural areas.

For this reason, in 2018, Harambee wants to support the local Episcopal Conference in its commitment to the professional training of single mothers (the phenomenon is still widespread) so that they can find a job, fighting the widespread discrimination to which they are subject.
