Home > News > Ivory Coast. Combating the Transmission of HIV Infection Mother-Son in Yamoussoukro

A contribution of 9,000 euros was sent as part of the project in support of the Walé Medical Centre which, since 2013, has been involved in health training and nutritional support programmes to reduce the transmission rate of newborns born to HIV-positive women. The programme is in collaboration with the Yamoussoukro Health District.

The action aims to provide infected mothers with adequate training on the risks and recommended procedures for feeding their children and a nutritional support programme for infants that can reduce the risk of vertical mother-to-child transmission of HIV-1. Preventive measures will be able to improve the disease-free survival of breastfed children, and to combat malnutrition and serious diseases (such as diarrhoea or pneumonia) in non-breastfed children. The programme also includes the provision of milk and cereals to mothers in need.
