On the occasion of the beatification of the scientist Guadalupe Ortiz de Landázuri to be held on May 18 in Madrid, Harambee launches a ten-year project of scholarships for young African scientists. The project will be presented next April 30, in Rome, as part of the meeting “Towards the beatification of Guadalupe Ortiz de Landázuri” organized by the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross (16:00/18:30).

Thanks to an international fundraising campaign, ten annual scholarships will be offered for a total period of ten years.  The project aims to promote the leadership of African women in scientific research with the aim of strengthening research centers in Africa, especially in the two areas of greatest impact on people: Life and Earth. This will encourage the creation of research centres of excellence in scientific subjects relating to the improvement of human health and the protection of the environment.

Each selected fellowship holder will be offered the possibility of training abroad, with a stay (from 1 to 9 months) in the best international research centres with which Harambee will enter into partnerships.

The project is supported by a scientific committee, composed of prestigious European researchers, which will select the most suitable candidates to receive the scholarship, and a management committee which will select the European research groups in which the beneficiaries will be integrated.

The general terms and conditions of the Guadeloupe Fellowship Programme will be published on the Harambee website at the launch of each call.

Participation in the meeting on 30 April is free of charge but the inscription is compulsory.
