Description

The project aims to promote the economic and social development of the local community in Monogaga, Côte d’Ivoire, through environmental conservation initiatives. With a focus on employment opportunities created by sea turtle protection, the project will employ youth and women in activities related to ecotourism and environmental management. These activities are integral to the conservation of sea turtles and their habitats, with the goal of releasing 10,000 baby turtles per year.

Beneficiaries

• Local population of Monogaga and surrounding villages, about 26,000 people.
• 10 youth involved in work activities related to sea turtle conservation and ecotourism.
• Local women who will receive job opportunities in the tourism sector.

Major Activities

• Creation of Job Opportunities in Environmental Conservation: Involvement of local youth in safeguarding and monitoring sea turtles and their habitats.
• Ecotourism Development: Training and employment of local youth as tour guides and turtle nursery managers, offering ecotourism experiences to visitors.
• Women’s Inclusion in the Tourism Sector: Support for women’s entrepreneurship with job opportunities in catering, hospitality and handicraft sales.
• Participatory and Equitable Management: Active participation of women in the ecotourism revenue management committee.
