Description

Drepanocytosis is a genetic disorder that significantly affects the lives of patients and their families, not only physically, but also psychologically and socially. The project aims to intervene in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire, through awareness-raising activities, capacity building of health personnel and direct management of patients.

Beneficiaries

200 people: 100 pregnant women and children (0-15 years old) for outreach activities; 50 patients with drepanocytosis; and 50 health personnel for training.

Major Activities

• Education of 100 pregnant women and children on how drepanocytosis is transmitted, with the goal of reducing exposure to risk factors.
• Capacity building of medical and paramedical staff at the Walé socio-medical center, essential given the complexity of drepanocytosis.
• Support and monitoring of 50 pregnant women and children with drepanocytosis, with a focus on complications and management in the early years of life.
