Description
The Democratic Republic of Congo is experiencing a worrying socio-economic situation. According to several reports, the country appears at the bottom of the United Nations Human Development Index (HDI); the maternal, newborn and child mortality rate is among the highest in the world. Monkole Hospital’s mission is to provide quality health care to the entire population, especially the disadvantaged population in its area (450,000 inhabitants), by facilitating access to health services through a series of social health programmes.


Activities
The aim of the project is to reduce high rates of maternal and child mortality through the treatment of patients from the beginning of pregnancy, with prenatal consultations, ultrasound scans, natural birth or caesarean section, postnatal consultations and treatment of possible neonatal problems.


Beneficiaries
200 young women and their babies.
