Home > Progetti > NIGERIA – Vision Screening and Refractive Surgery in the Rural Areas of Enugu

Promoter: Niger Foundation Hospital and Diagnostic Centre

Description
In Nigeria, the problem of low vision and blindness mainly affects rural and marginalised areas where prevention and treatment are more difficult. The main causes are uncorrected refractive error; cataracts and glaucoma. The project therefore aims to combine a plan for vision screening, provision of glasses and cataract removal. An important part will be dedicated to education for prevention. The activities will take place at the Iwollo rural medical centre, which depends on the Niger Hospital in Enugu (Harambee’s partner for several years).

Beneficiaries: 650 women and 550 men from 2 to 80 years old
